La Caballada de Atienza
(Diario ABC)
En su libro «A History of Medieval Spain» (1975), cuando habla de la organización de las cofradías de artesanos y comerciantes en el siglo XII, hace mención de las antiguas ordenanzas de "los recueros e los mercadantes de Atienza", la popular Cofradía de La Caballada, y cuyo documento original ha llegado hasta nuestros días: Artisans and tradesmen in Christian towns were beginning to organize confraternities (cofradías, confratrias) in the twelfth century, for both spiritual and economic purposes, that is, to provide spiritual comfort to the members in time of distress, but more importantly to defend their economic interests. The ordinances to be observed by the muleteers and merchants (los recueros e los mercadantes) of Atienza at the close of the twelfth century illustrate this point.
